.....wait, y'all have hope? 😂😂 I know being negative doesn't help anything, but man am I having a hard time finding any reason to stay positive. I'm barely scraping by right now and don't know if I'll ever be able to live comfortably working in retail, even if I do manage to get a new title and better pay.

It’s tough trying to stay positive when you’re doing everything you can and still barely getting by. Really hope things start looking up for you soon.
I've totally been feeling the same in my store. I know I'm doing everything right, but I never seem to get noticed for promotions or extra responsibilities. I've tried shifting my focus to having a better attitude and volunteering to help, but I still feel like I'm not one of the favorites on my team. I've started casually applying elsewhere with literally no replies. I'm not sure how anyone is landing a job in this market :/

That’s such a tough spot to be in. I totally get the frustration. It’s hard putting in the effort and not seeing it go anywhere, especially when it feels like you’re doing all the right things.
I think this is just a natural part of any career. Growth isn't linear and every professional has long stretches of stagnation between opportunities and promotions. Especially with this economy, which is also a huge factor in how people will grow and are compensated. I try not to let myself get discouraged and just remember, this kind of thing happens and has always happened.

That’s such a grounded way to look at it. It really helps to hear that this isn’t just me that these slow stretches are part of the bigger picture.
Right now my mindset is more about survival than growth. I would love to be making progress in my career, but the economy isn't making companies eager to hand out promotions and raises. I feel grateful to have any job, even if I'm stagnant. That doesn't make it any less frustrating, I'm just very aware that it could be a lot worse (as is the case for a few of my friends who have been laid off).

Totally get that. It’s hard to balance being grateful and still feeling stuck but both can be true at the same time.
