We unfortunately don’t get overtime. They threaten to write us up if we get OT. With the amount of call outs we have they should be glad that someone wants to work later or come in earlier
Pro
That is pretty strict policy around working hours. I used to work for a retail store where we were not supposed to take anybody's shift if it leads to more than 40 hours of work oer week or we were written up.
Ours isn't really structured but managers want to give priority to the senior employees. But the senior employees usually don't want it so it becomes a last-minute scramble every time...
Pro
It is the same thing for our department too. Senior employee don't take OT but my company still wouldn't give it to us. That feels weird to me.
We are so understaffed that our policy is basically if you are willing to work it, it is yours. We need all the help we can get. I am kind of surprised they have that policy if there is plenty of OT to go around.
Pro
Thats what I don't understand either. You either give it to people whoever is looking for OT or just don't ask around. Our GM is a bit weird personality actually so whatever he says just goes.
Pro
Totally get this. It’s frustrating when the workload is heavy but OT is limited by tenure. At my company, OT is usually offered based on seniority too, but when things get really busy they open it up to everyone. I wish more places were flexible, if people are willing and capable, why not let them help and earn a bit extra?
Pro
Exactly! They should be more flexibility around OT especially when workload it alot but some companies don't understand it.
