Not the best or worst: litigation. Not sure why people think litigation is chill. We definitely don’t have the fire drills or insanely tight deadlines that corporate teams do, but there’s ALWAYS work going on. No down time. Just constant 9am - 10 pm every day. And when you have multiple filings due on the same day, God help you.

Best, non-working spouse of a biglaw equity partner. Worst: transactional paralegal—70-80% associate hours for 1/3 of the pay.

Just so everyone understands, this was in fact posted to validate that my life is worse than everyone else outside my group and my wish came true.

I don’t know if this is true for everyone, but I love white collar work, and the lifestyle is pretty predictable.

Worst: private equity, leveraged finance
Best: specialist and regulatory practices seem pretty chill

Restructuring when it’s busy always had the worst hours at our firm. The lightest historically were T&E and tax.

Junior litigators, how are you all doing? Am I the only one finding it impossible to manage my own caseload, take on new urgent assignments from partners, and not be burnt out right now? Getting to the point where I’m so behind that I sometimes feel too overwhelmed to even start on my task list. Doesn’t help that partners take forever to review my work so i can get the product to the client. Looking for commiseration & encouragement that things will look up lol!

Hello! I’m doing an “eat the alphabet” activity with my friend where each letter red presents a country, I.e. (A)fghanistan, (B)razil, etc. I’m currently at O and looking for recommendations for Oaxacan restaurants (Oman is the only country that starts with O but there aren’t any restaurants serving it’s food in NYC so extending to cities/regions). Anyone have recommendations for a Oaxacan, not just Mexican, restaurant that is also affordable? Thanks!

im 10 weeks into my contract as a PO at a large satelline/wireless provider (synonym: plate) and the company has offered to bring me on as an internal employee.

currently i am hourly contractor at a rate of $50/hr + 2k sign on

the salaried offer is for 104k ( $52/hr)/ no bonus

problem here is that i work 48-52hrs/wk & get paid overtime, so taking this offer would actually be a paycut by about $250-300/wk

how / what should i negotiate as a fair compensation package

No hate please. How do you handle the conversation with partners about depression becoming a problem and/or intervening with your performance at work? I have days where I operate at 300% and others where I struggle to even brush my teeth in the morning. And yes, I am on medication.

Does anyone else feel like the term “manage up” has been twisted from meaning “try to set expectations for your availability and process” to “do both your job AND the partners job?” So many partners just ignore email requests and pings until everything is last minute or on fire. When I mention this in any sort of review “manage up” is normally what I hear back, in some form or another.

Is it okay that I’ve been a slow junior as we’re hours away from closing? I’m trying to be proactive and available to cross things off the list but I’m SLOW: takes me long enough that they do it themselves (even though this wasn’t an issue earlier in the deal) and even on quick tasks or emails, they respond to it before I can click send. There’s also so much about closing that I don’t understand and I feel like I’m bothering the higher-ups on the team whenever I ask. *end anxiety post*

the main partner I work for hasn’t been giving me consistent enough work (or type I want) so while I work for him still on some deals, I’ve had to go and get other work from other partners. He doesn’t regularly check in on what I’m working on. He keeps volunteering me for projects without checking if I have capacity and if he expected to know everything I’m working on… he would’ve thought I was just doing nothing the last 2 months. I don’t know how to address this workload balancing with him!

Need advice. Am in the middle of parental leave right now and my spouse and I are on the brink of divorce. Have only this 1 kid. Spouse doesn’t work yet, but can with earning potential around $50k. I make around $450k. No way I’d keep this job if divorce happens. I’d eventually transition in house so I can take care of my kid when I have him, but that won’t be immediate. How will custody work in that case? I want joint, but how do I take care of him alone with this job in the meantime?
