Yikes! I do feel like that was a weird way to phase that question lol but oh well. Personally, I do not care, just let people select the gender they identify as. Who does it hurt? If there is a valid legal reason that this is an issue, I would be happy to learn about it. But I do not see the harm at the moment but I know I could be incorrect.
Birth gender, end the madness or validation of confusion.
I think if you go through gender reassignment surgery and/or go through the necessary steps to have your birth certificate changed, you should be able to update your DL, too.
My vote is people should mind their own d*mn business; and your gender is none of my business.

For what purpose? And under what circumstance? I don't care how you live your life, until it negatively impacts others. I don't see trans women asking to compete in men's sports because they know its a disadvantage. I do see trans men wanting to compete in womens sports as they know they have an advantage. Sorry, it's not right.
From everything I have read the hormones required have long term negative impacts and these people end up with serious long term health issues. Ditto for the surgeries. But as an adult if you want to shoulder that burden, go for it.

I think the bigger issue is these procedures are fairly new so LT effects are only now coming to light. And not letting abody go through puberty has very long term consequences that are very different than undergoing hormone treatment as an adult. Which is why, my view is adults should be free to make that decision if they choose, but I think you can support gender disphoria in children without chemical and surgical intervention.

Birth genders, imo.
If it’s for legal or medical reasons, sports competition or women’s scholarship, you need to tell the truth to ensure the best treatment and fairness. But for social circumstances and as an adult, do what you want. Nobody’s business how you live day to day.
