Lit attorneys: have you ever been sanctioned? How many times and what was the justification?

No. But I’ve hung some sanctions on opposing counsel a couple of times.

It’s very rare and I would caution any attorney to exhaust every option before actually moving for sanctions.

Discovery sanctions are rare in your practice?

Few orders more satisfying to read than Judge Furman’s nationwide sanctions against copyright troll Richard Liebowitz: https://fingfx.thomsonreuters.com/gfx/legaldocs/qzjpqxjqzvx/IP%20COPYRIGHT%20LIEBOWITZ%20distct.pdf

Nah. Even just getting the go ahead to move for sanctions as to counsel is rare in biglaw firms because there’s often an approval process outside of the case team. I did get that approval once and they just got scolded on the record, and then so did we for filing the motion lmao. Federal judges do not like sanctioning counsel. I’ve had better luck getting the other party sanctioned for discovery misconduct and I’ve never had a client of mine get sanctioned on any team I’ve been on.

I'm working in the US under H1B, I got a chance to face an interview for another company. My current company started the PERM application also and results will be out within the next 3 months. Is it okay to transfer my H1B to a new company? Can my H1B transfer be denied? How long will my green card application delay if I move to a new company and start to apply for a green card from scratch?

Anyone feel frustrated at times with the super aggressive sales personalities we deal with? My AE is always pushing on every ask no matter how minuscule it is. My vp is super anal about anything we do. I understand these guys pull in huge commissions and bonuses that’s why they are so motivated. However what I personally feel is they just nag us until we do the job according to their spec. Just venting……anyone else feel the same?

I've done so well in this new role within the company that they are hiring another person to assist with what I do. I've voiced to my boss that I'd like to manage this department and they indicated that this is the thought for the future. Now they are asking me to train this person while I have my plate full. Is it wrong for me to expect either a promotion or to be paid to train this person?

It's super frustrating to be "time poor".

That's seemingly just the nature of working in Biglaw.

But every day you have the option to buy back your time.

How do you buy back time?

It's simple—by saving and investing.

And you don't need to be uber wealthy to regain control of your time.

I am a mid level and have received an offer from a regional big law firm in a non-market paying location. I believe the firm would be a great fit and the location is where I want to be. The biggest issue is money. I’d be lateraling from full cravath in a major market and the initial offer I received is a bit off that (read: 50% salary reduction). While the market is cheaper in some respects, housing is not. How far can I expect this firm to go to in terms of compensation? Any negotiation tips?

I accepted an offer to work at an Am Law 100 firm in June. I just graduated law school in May. They offered a stipend and reimbursement for bar expenses. I am currently still waiting for any word on when the money will come. They have not started onboarding me or anything. Should I be concerned? Why are they dragging their feet? I have contacted them 3 times since June.
