I think that’s too broad a point of view. Google Sheets is great at many things, better than Excel in some of those ways.

No one talks about it, but I think it was Google Sheets that pushed Excel to finally improve. Google Sheets released dynamic array formulas first, eg, Filter function. And it still has better syntax than Excel. Same with Sort functions. Syntax is silly in Excel.

Query function and import range work really well to imitate SQL syntax to pull in data from other sheets. You can use Power Query now, but Google Sheets’ ease of use via simple formulas is hard to beat.

I think it’s more that people really love their thing and by default really dislike the other thing because it’s not their thing. But there’s nuance for the willing.

I hate excel it is always super slow and it just sucks. I have started using smart sheets and love it. So glad my work switched.

Help me save the day: have a massive excel file (600k rows) with duplicate records (column a, b and c are duplicate, not a duplicate if a and b are the same though).
