This open office plan sucks. Besides the constant din, we've got 3 agencies crammed on to one floor, sharing conference rooms and huddle rooms. Agency identity is lost and it feels like an ad factory

Sounds like a Publicis Groupe thing. Power of One and all that.

like

Oh, you have huddle rooms. Fancy.

I just hate it because, as a writer, it’s already hard enough focusing on words without hearing people speak other words around me.

I don't even need an office. Just a wall or two would be nice

“Open office plans are great!" Said everyone working in a private office.

OP - I take it you now have a locker and no permanent space (if I’m guessing where you are correctly). I have friends there and am aware of the situation. I agree with another poster, WFH or remote if you can so you can be productive since you’re ultimately graded for the quality of your work

Cant wait for 35 west wacker to roll out open concept to the rest of the groupe in 2019.

Probably would not have wanted to work here as much if we were in this office when I was interviewing

Three agencies on one floor? Same holding company, I assume. But are there no client conflicts among the agencies?

I agree with OP. After working in an open office for years I am so grateful to have an office again. Quality of work and attention to detail are challenging to achieve in open offices when you’re distracted by people eating, their ainus problems, loud phone calls, etc. You also see who doesn’t really “work”

like

Because it is a factory. But more in the vain of a sweatshop

All holding companies are consolidating. OP could be anywhere.

I’m currently at an independent shop but we share space with another agency and it was so crowded today I left to do a client call at home.

like

Where are you OP?

@Director1: rather keep that on the low

It is hard. If you can, try to WFH or a coffee shop all that you can.

Hi all, asking on behalf of my SO. He’s currently in a backend engineer security role and wants to move into an infra related one. He’s in talks with his manager about moving internally in his current company but that is still in discussion. He just got an offer from another company for an infra role but they need an answer in the next week. How do you guys suggest he push for a decision from his manager about the internal move. Should he tell his manager he has another offer?

I feel like I was straight up lied to during the interview process. “lots of opportunities to hit quota”. I’m sitting here with only one demo two months after joining the company. it looks like our team has only two people doing demos, and demos are only happening once every two weeks. At this rate, I don’t think I’ll be even close to hitting OTE. Are there any other companies hiring right now? I’ll have a discussion about my concerns with my manager soon, but there’s too many red flags here.

I left my job without having anything else lined up otherwise I would have had a mental breakdown. I’m not even in that great of a financial place, but it was my job or my sanity. I know at least three other people who, in the past few months, have left with nothing lined up. I feel like it’s something we need to be talking more about.
