Does he really want/need another watch at this point?
Visual Storyteller
He certainly does not need one, but it’s a passion we have shared together.
Where are you an associate? Lol
Has he expressed any interest in anything? Wrist watch is tricky since he can only wear one at a time. Look into neat desk clocks maybe? Jlc atmos comes to mind but there are plenty other. If he is a watch nerd he will likely appreciate

Awesome idea!
Calatrava—he needs a dress watch. Go for the 5227
Excellent recommendation here

I know this is the watch bowl, but I feel like someone needs to take a contrarian view.
I have a long way to go until my kids would be in that position, but I feel like I wouldn’t want them to blow $40k on a present for me and I know my dad wouldn’t want that either even if it isn’t an issue financially. Is there something meaningful about this birthday or do you often do grand gifts to each other? Are you also spending $40k on your mom if she’s still in the picture? I have so many questions on this.
Does he already have a nice winder? You could easily drop a couple grand on a nice wolf winder or get a matching set so you think of each other putting on your watches in the morning.

It’s a 60th birthday and without getting into it, I owe absolutely everything to him - it’s corny but he’s truly my best friend.
My parents separated when I was young so the dynamic is a bit different, but I planned a vacation for my mom and her significant other for hers - she loves to travel.
At 40k you should primarily be looking at the top 4 only

Agree. VC, Patek, Girard Perregaux and Seiko 5.

I repinned my hierarchy. Check out the top two rows for further inspiration. Some lesser known brands could be really compelling:
- Czapek
- H Moser & Cie
- Urban Jürgensen
- Laurent Ferrier
- Moritz Grossman
- Romain Gaultier
Cellini in NYC carries a lot of these brands too.
Laurent Ferrier might be too chic if he’s a Rolex guy but they are gorgeous.
I guess I can see the similarity on some level but LF is so refined outside and inside.

I think the overseas is a pretty awesome watch. The most interesting bracelet, hands down imo. Feels like it stays in what he likes, but something totally new.
I posted this a while ago: I think this Patek is really cool
i would go for a grand Lange 1 moon phase

Ulysse?
Lange?
Glashutte?
40k opens a lot of doors

Glashutte is a great suggestion, thanks!
