Thoughts on 36mm Rolex datejust? Too small? M
My one and only

Happy Sunday. For some reason, it’s 4:20 somewhere.

OMEGA INCREASED THEIR PRICES OH NOOOOOOOOOO
Thoughts on a Omega De Ville Prestige as a first luxury watch? Would be ~$7.5K USD at retail. Some friends have said great things about Omega as a starter, whereas others say it’s not worth it over a Rolex Oyster Perpetual (which would be similar in cost).
I personally love how clean the design is, the use of gold, and the thinner band as it links the watch … find the Rolex band design to be too chunky.

Just got a Pepsi GMT this week after a 2.5 year wait with some purchase history with my AD.
Pro
Go to the AD with your brother and let him introduce you and have him wear his GMT he bought there so they know he has it and wears it and didn’t flip it.
Enthusiast
For a sub or a GMT you absolutely need to have a relationship. Unless off course you are one of those exceptionally lucky people that we sometimes hear about that walked into an AD/jeweler in some small town off the beaten path and chanced on a SS Daytona or Kermit sitting in the display case !OR you come from a wealthy family, with an established history at a local AD!
If you’re serious, I would suggest visiting a few ADs in your locale, and if you hit if off with one of them buying an available model so they consider putting you on their “waitlist “ for the highly sought after models that you’re looking for
Yeah I can wait a year, not in a rush lol
A got a sub after a 5 month wait through a referral. No prior purchase history, but this was last year before the new ones came out
Thanks!
The best approach for you for your specific situation is to buy pre-own trying to get the best price you can by contacting as many sellers as you can. Trying to get a piece at MSRP from a Rolex AD will likely not be worth it in your specific case.
Trying to contact trusted sellers that is, not always the cheapest piece is the best deal. I do agree with the idea of buying the seller instead of the deal in most cases.
You 100% need a relationship these days. Always best to have a “watch friend” with a long purchase history as they will be higher on the list. Ask them to purchase for you, pay them and then buy them a bottle of wine to say thank you. Honestly though, I’d go the preowned route like others recommended. Avoid ceramic 50-100% Batman, Pepsi, Hulk etc inflated resale prices though. Get something like a steel black sub (always in high demand and easy to resell) and sell it if and when you can get your hands on something great (at retail or near retail price).
