Balvenie double wood 12yr

This is an excellent choice
Oban FTW. It’s pretty unique, and a light touch on the smoke. Plus it flies a little under the radar whereas Macallan is the dominant producer.
One pour of Oban 14 is what got me into scotch. And after becoming a bit of a snob and trying hundreds of different single malts, it’s still my favorite.
That said, almost any single malt commonly available in the US at your price point will be a solid bet. The ones from Islay will be super smokey, the ones from the Highlands will gravitate towards sweet. The “Glens” are generally lighter and more floral than what you would find in bourbon with mixed levels of smoke.

Balvenie Doublewood 12 is amazing

They used to do a triple wood or 3 wood (golfing reference) which was even better!
Glenfarclas 10 or 12 run about $50-60
Oban is so smooth. Check out Cragganmoore.
Glenfiddich 14 bourbon barrel aged. Got it at Costco for 50 bucks. Usually runs like 60-70 elsewhere. I’m in the same boat, where I lean towards bourbon and ryes as well.
Picked up the oban. Pretty good, a little light but overall I like it.
If you want to try something cool and different, check out The Beverly High Rye. New blend of Rye with Bourbon, so it has the spice of Rye with the smoothness of Bourbon. Highly recommend!
Old Soul Tue was really nice this weekend. It’s a Buffalo Trace product. Bought it in a bundle with Eagle Rare.

So is it worth trying Oban little bay or just stick to the 14?
I like both, but the 14 is better IMHO because it has a more distinctive character. In the Little Bay much of that brininess disappears though it is a tad smoother.
