Try your best to avoid it and prepare now while you can. If you’re going to get fired you’re going to get fired so spend your energy and time putting yourself in an optimal position instead of worrying about something that may or may not happen.
SA 1: not sure I actually just left, but that doesn’t surprise me.
I've been keeping my resume up-to-date and making sure to keep my network of connections "warm", just in case I have to tap into some of them. And, of course, keeping my head down and trying to perform at my very best.
I think the plan for now is to keep my head down, get. through work and wait for the marke to pick back up again. Was hoping to make a jump soon but I think I'm gonna stay put until at least Feb/March for now
There have been rumors going around our workplace about a layoff. It's making me anxious. Following on this thread for some advice. Thanks for this, OP!
I hope you'll be able to find some encouragement here. I know it's insanely stressful trying to navigate all the talk about layoffs!
Rising Star
1. It’s not personal.
2. Be prepared with cash in the bank.
3. Get to networking now so you’re prepared for your worst fears
Solid advice, all three. These are certainly the moments when cash in the bank makes all the difference!
If people don’t ask about your current employment status, do you need to disclose that you recently got laid off? Should I wait until they ask?
If it's on your resume that your job has ended, then they may ask, and you can disclose that info then. Don't feel you need to lead with that information, but be honest when they ask!
Try to be optimistic! I know there's so much uncertainty in the market, but do what you can to make it tough for them to lay you off. We're all going to be fine guys!
