Waited for a little over a year, which was advised by my doctor. Pregnancy for my second was hard because I was very anemic - I needed blood transfusions during the c-section for my first, and none of my doctors caught on that I was still highly anemic until I went to the ER in my second trimester. Besides that, everything went fine.
Following because on same boat
I conceived my second when 1st was 16-17 months old. But before I even did that I sort of “took permission “ from my docs.
PCP - I told her in my annual visit (which was ~15 months pp) about my plans to try for second one just so she had that context when reviewing my blood work. In my results that week she said she diagnosed few things so put me on those meds and supplements right away and said make sure you’re taking these but you may proceed to try. Also I never sort of stopped taking prenatals throughout postpartum because in the year prior (annual visit which fell on my 3rd month pp) I had boat load of nutritional deficiencies (no surprises there) so she said continue with prenatal until next annual visit Atleast along with few other supplements. Once i conceived and when I had my first apt at OB they reviewed all these supplements and meds and helped create a plan of what to continue vs what to stop based on timelines.
OBGYN- I called them up and told them that I want to try for next so do I need to get checked out or something. They referred me to some women’s imaging lab (think that’s what it’s called) in the same building where they did MFA style ultrasound of my uterus (my out of pocket was ridiculous, but hey what can you do). OBGYN checked those out and in same week said “all good for you to proceed “.
About a month later I conceived. Baby is due this summer 😊
My current pregnancy is very different from last pregnancy. There was nothing abnormal about it, it’s just when I sit and compare it’s different. Ob told me you should never compare pregnancies because every pregnancy is different even in same person. In last and even in this one I have GD. in my last I had short cervix issue but not there in this one.
But this time around it did seem a lot difficult and I attribute that to having a demanding project at work compared to the one I had in last pregnancy and also I have a HIGH energy almost 2 yr old toddler whereas I’m drained all day every day.
My doctor told me to wait 1 year before trying to allow for good healing.
Following. I asked my doctor at my 8 week follow-up/checkup, and she told me to wait 9 months before trying. My sister in law did ivf for her kids and needed to wait a year. Notably, I just turned 37 a few days before having my first and that plays a factor in my doctor's timelime. My sister in law was 39 and 41 when she had her children.
