Well played. This made me chuckle. But, it also made me a bit sad. This seemed to be coming from a person who, at first glance, wouldn’t qualify for diversity programs. So they need to amp it up to be considered.
That tells me OP already had privilege—whether gender, race, or both—on their side in an industry that leans heavily white and male.
Diversity hiring was initially made for those of us who don’t. Those of us who can’t change their skin color or gender just to make the interviewer across the table relate to them more.
I know it’s meant as a joke. (And, it was a good one.) But, as diverse peoples, we should try our best to be mindful of our comrades’ plights.

Thought the same thing when i read this. Writing as a queer poc. It’s actually the opposite for me — i feel like i need to present as clean cut and hip-corporate to get hired while being interviewed by, and it’s always, white people
