After the first trimester. Let them know I would need some flexibility for doctors appts etc, and when my expected maternity leave would start.
Tell someone close to you that can support you being out for doctor appointments. Make sure to have a woman partner mentor to support your career behind closed doors with firm leadership. Definitely wait until you are in second trimester due to the risks in the first trimester. I did not have that luxury where I worked before (not BDO) and there were too many questions from dudes. We have lots of women that would love to support you through this process. You just have to ask
Agree with Moss Adams after the 1st trimester
I waited until about 15/16 weeks. Anything can happen in the 1st trimester so I wouldn’t want to share too soon, esp with people that are my colleagues and not necessarily friends.
I told my close colleagues when I hit the 2nd trimester. I showed early on so couldn’t keep it a secret long.
Thanks for each of your responses so far. I’m definitely weary of telling people too soon, but I also don’t want them to find out before I tell them.
I got dinged for not telling my manager sooner. I’m still bitter about it a year later. I didn’t want to tell anyone in the first trimester, but it made it hard since I was sick and had to use some vacation days. Mind you, it was the absolute slowest time of the year and there was nothing for me to do on that job
Haha... almost five months. I’m always out of the office, either at a client or WFH, and it was no ones damn business. When I finally did have to go in the office, it was pretty clear baby #3 was on the way, so had to speak with them.
