Midlevel/senior associates at the 2,400 hour+ places in M&A, how often are you able to make plans and keep them? Going from a slow shop to a busy one soon, and I want to set expectations. Right now, I have a chill job. But job security is obviously iffy. So I’m moving to a firm that is known to have very busy associates. Just curious if most of the people on here who feel like they are constantly frowning are 1-3 years, or if this dread continues to 5-8+ years.

I applied to a part time masters program to try to pivot to a different technical field (still doing patent work, but in something that interests me more than what I’m doing now). I’ve asked for work but no luck. I know they say this is normal for a stub but when should I start getting worried and consider looking for exit options? Fyi, I like my practice group, so I don’t want to change to a different group within my firm, hence would have to lateral, if I have to. Also, other co-1st years are churning in high hours.
