A BCG recruiter ghosted me after she reached out to schedule an interview. How long should I wait before following up? What is the common courtesy to give to ppl at BCG. I don’t wanna come off as too aggressive but I really need to get this interview set as there are other pending confirmations Boston Consulting Group

If you are dead set on PE end goal, then IBD is #1 pathway in, but accept your competition will be from BB banks, PE laterals or MBB - nothing is guaranteed and you might not get your preferred tier of PE firms. However, if you are unsure about your end goal (or that you might just discover new interests as you progress your career) then it won’t hurt to start in McK - I’ve seen some good exits to top tier PE. I was hell bent on IBD and PE at one stage, now I don’t see the attraction at all.
Unnecessarily long hours and stress for no real reason other than cultural precedence.. novelty of cash wears off pretty quickly.. also the work is pretty repetitive - you are just doing deals at the end of the day, after 2-3 years I figured I’d get bored.. it’s just my pov ultimately it’s your career and life it’s your decision to make
PE/deals is your goal? MM bank, what is difficult about this choice?
McKinsey is more well known, and after 2-3 years, I do see people move to Big PE firms like Bain capital. MM bank is nothing like GS / JPMorgan deals, not sure if it would be an easier exit to Big PE after a few years
McK can be better than MM bank if we’re talking about top PE recruiting. True, some brand name PE don’t look at consultants (eg BX, KKR, WP) but they also don’t look at MM banks - you’ll need to be at GS/MS/EVR to have a serious shot at those places
MBB gives you a serious shot at all of the big names that recruit consultants, like Bain cap, permira, H&F, etc while the MM bank will let you cast a wider net on less well know names
That’s exactly how I feel about the situation too. IBD seems to be less attractive nowadays, given the promotion is slower than consulting. But GS / centerview / EVR can be better. I heard their bonus is more than 100%

Will probably get more looks in IBD than you will at MBB.
That being said you still get MF/MM PE HH’s that reach out at MBB, but mainly mainly for their Ops team from my exp.
Which role will you be working for McKinsey? I think IB >>>>> MBB in terms of PE exits. Excluding mega fund, there are still a lot of private equity shops out there. Most of them have IB backgrounds. So IB experience will increase your odds.
Yeah i dont know details, but i think most of people are from Ib backgrounds. If you have free time, just search their background.
Are you pre-MBA or post? It post, PE is not a realistic outcome.
I have a master, but no MBA
