I got sworn in at a 711 by a sewer rat. NOT FAIR.
Now I’m really jealous.
I cold emailed a district court judge and she swore me in even though she didn’t know me
This is bold and badass, ngl.
Samez. My secretary swore me in in an empty conference room because I didn’t receive paperwork from the bar in time for our ceremony. Anticlimactic lol.
It just makes our experience all the more unique. 2020 and 2021 bar takers will (hopefully) have the most unique stories of perseverance to share with future generations of attorneys.
Exactly! But with more cursing and comments about the evils of my state's Supreme Court. 😆
Hmm I think I’m a weird one. My friends and family were ALLLLLL about making the swearing in a big deal. I didn’t care one bit. I was happy to have my “work mom” swear me in rather than a judge I didn’t know. My people were severely disappointed. Any one else out there like me??
I cared, but I was sworn in during 2020 and the ceremonies weren’t happening, so our firm did a mini dinner and drinks function and asked some seniors to attend and do the swearing in. It wasn’t as rigid as the actual ceremonies and it was mostly just a ton of fun! Honestly ended up being a total positive.
I went to a Wells Fargo to get sworn in.
They prob opened ten new bank accounts in your name to mark the occasion
I got sworn in by a federal judge in our main conference room, but the pictures look like they were taken on a Nokia flip phone circa-2006 so I never posted them anywhere.
You can still get “sworn in” and do the whole ceremony for fun! I just did last week. I am a 2020 covid exam passer, so I just did the oath in front of a notary a year ago and got a ceremony last week in front of a judge I am familiar with.
Yeah, basically! Because you’ve already submitted your oath to get licensed, you’re just doing the ceremony part it for theatrics. Maybe be clear about this to the Judge you are asking to do the ceremony with tho, just so they’re not confused lll
It’s unfortunate that you didn’t get to have that. I’m a 2019 grad. I was sworn in by my judge and he threw me a party in chambers with another judge I interned for, the former presiding judge, and my judge’s former law clerks, as well as my family and now-wife.
In my living room after my boyfriend got home from work…🥲
