If you were fired tomorrow or just "laid off" what would you do first ?

I quit my previous job approximately 5-6 months ago due to toxic culture and being pressured to commit fraud… I fear hiring managers see that I’ve been out of work for this time and may assume I was fired or laid off. Additionally I’ve had a couple interviews where company “X” interviewers have commented on this and in an effort to not bad mouth my previous employer I’m stuck with a generic answer like I want to take my career to the next level with Company “X.” Any thoughts/advice?

Sorry if this isn’t the right bowl! I was fired from my last job due to performance issues. I filed for unemployment and was approved, however my former employer filed an appeal. I’m not even sure what they’re protesting but it’s making me really nervous. What should I do now?

OK gonna maybe open a can of worms here but I have to ask: it seems the sudden inflation we're seeing has taken the ins. ind. by surprise. The cost/expense projections done X yrs. ago for this and poss'y subsequent yrs. have been thrown off. Costs to repair/replace cars have shot up unexpectedly. Same for houses. Med costs have all gone up. Ins. cos. have relatively thin profit margins to begin with. There's talk of cost-cutting measures-- incl. layoffs. How realistic are these concerns?

Brand Strategy/Planning roles aren't typical in PR. So every new Account hire arrives with no experience working with a Strategist. I'm tired of explaining/showing my role adds necessary value. I love strategy, but I have an offer at another agency to move into Account as Group SVP. They want to "customize" the role for my experience, but I'm afraid it will just be on paper and people will expect me to know things I just won't. I can't afford to be fired. Thoughts? Does anyone do trusts and estates at an AmLaw firm? I always thought that was more of a boutique practice area. Was contacted by a recruiter, and while I'm happy with almost everything about where I'm at, the way people discuss AmLaw salaries, I feel like I should consider it since it would probably be a significant jump in salary. I'm at 120k TC, and the only way it's going up is with increased bonuses or share of originations (and I am not a networker).
