My firm recently announced they are moving to a transparent pay scale model where everyone in the same bracket gets the exact same base salary. On one hand, it removes the awkwardness of wondering if your desk-mate is out-earning you for the same work. On the other hand, it feels like there’s zero incentive to go above and beyond. How would you keep yourself motivated?

How many levels are there?
If there are quite a lot (I’m thinking 8+ up to CEO) then it could work, if multiple promotions are possible.
Also you’re saying base pay, presumably bonus is still a differentiator?

Assuming the brackets have competitive numbers, it’s an incentive to move up. If you just want to stay at the same level, I don’t see how it matters either way. I’m wondering if this just makes more problems them it solves, honestly.

I would assume there are still ways to move up to the next bracket. I’d recommend having a conversation with your manager about what it takes to reach that next level. That discussion could provide clarity on how to go above and beyond and what the next steps look like.

I’d like this structure if bonuses were based on performance. This would prevent such a drastic disparity in pay for the same roles but still incentivize those who go above and beyond

Agreed!

I asked for a raise in April 2022 after three years with my company. Positive feedback since day one. Learned I was making less than peers at other asset managers in NYC with less experience (14 years). Latest conversation was with HR about how they calculate salaries. I’ve been asked to provide examples how my role has changed since I started to justify the increase. Is this normal? Or is this just their way of denying my request?

I have an offer and want to negotiate

1. London base salary but I have to absorb all the expenses (train + stay)
I am thinking to negotiate to

2. home base salary and have my expenses paid for

I know that's depends on the amount I have to travel (and potentially stay) but at the moment this is unknown. Past 8 months was just twice a month + 2 nights stay.

The only thing I know is it won't be every week, the return trian ticket is about £80-100, depends I could plan ahead.

I am a registered sales assistant which means I have my series 7. I also have the 63 and my Life & Health license. I was a financial advisor but the role is commission only so I decided to take a role as an assistant for some time to learn etc. I really like my role, but I only make 32k a year and after taxes I only take home about 25k. I have a gut feeling that I’m not being paid market value but it’s tough to find comparable salaries. Do you think $15.38/hr is a fair wage in this case?
