My last position was pretty heartbreaking. But the attorney and I parted on good terms. However, I felt a set back mentally and emotionally. Mentally because I do think of the regrets, what could/should have went better. But comes back to I didn't do the job in the fullest capacity the attorney needed me. Has anybody else gone through this experience? How did it make you feel? Living with regrets?

I used to have regrets for feeling that I didn't do the best of my capabilities in a job, because the tasks weren't clear, and I used to think that I was never enough. Then, I talked to a counselor about it and changed my perspective that everything is part of the process, sometimes we need to do it wrong to get it right.. She taught me to see my experience as the school I needed for the next job. Now, I have learned so many things from my last job that I am the best worker at my current one. We all have things to improve, and the faster we learn them, the sooner we can enjoy the results!

I have to agree with you on that one. If you don't mind my asking, how long have you been with that firm?

You can't be so hard on yourself. Nobody does their job perfectly, we all walk away with some regrets. But nobody expects you to be perfect either! If you parted on good terms, I would try to accept that you did your best and move on.

Thank you for that. I started out great. But, something happened to me when the attorney hired another set of hands. I felt as if I ended up taking a backseat. Why, I did, I could think of many reasons. But, what it boils down to is I messed up. That is the truth. I should have kept blowing and a going. Something in me, held me back. Living without regrets is something I am learning to do as long as I make right and wise decisions.

I am sorry to hear that. At the end of the day you have to do what is best for you. I try to live a life of no regrets.

Thank you. I'm growing still. Sometimes I still feel like I'm this inexperienced kid on the inside of me. Do you ever feel that way? I asked my mother about that, she said, it happens.

I did it! I got an in-house Paralegal position after years of working and being burned out at different law firms. I was going to leave the legal field all together because I was so burned out and depressed, but I decided to give the field one more chance if I was able to go in-house. Prayerfully, this transition will be a good one.

Hi everyone. Is it typical for the attorney to take credit for the work a paralegal does? An example: I gave some ideas about deposition questions and some observations I made (I was asked about giving suggestions) regarding a witness and the attorney mentioned that he’s the one that had these great questions/observations. Zero credit or thank you for the work I did.
