I would let it go. It won’t help you with him to point it out, only serve to make him think you’re too sensitive. Most people who continue to use it just think administrative assistant is the new “buzzword” for secretary. They aren’t going to see what the big deal is. They don’t understand how much more complicated an admins role is compared to a secretary. But I’m sure the people he’s introducing you to are judging him for using such an outdated, sexist term!
It would depend on the type of working relationship you have with that manager. If you generally work together quite well, with no other instances of inconsistency, set up a short coffee/tea/beverage of choice meeting with them to discuss the situation.
It could be a generational thing, where they don't clue in that the terminology has changed over time, and most Admins have significant education behind them.
It could be a test to see how you respond in a situation.
I would, as matter-of-factly as possible, correct him in the moment. Or as you shake the client's hand, reintroduce yourself and title. If they say you are being too sensitive, you can say it's not a matter of feelings, it's a matter of respect.
All the best to you!
I mean, would he correct you if you got his title wrong? It's an issue of respect and I think you should say something until he gets the message.
As I have been introduced as such- I feel like with years of experience and acting office manager here, introducing me as such, feels like I have just stepped out of high school.
You know who you are, choose your battle wisely and ignore ignorance.
You've got a point, but there's probably not much good that will come out of making an issue of it. He'll probably just say it's easier to tell a client that and it doesn't mean anything. However, if it really bothers you and you sense there's some intentional insult to it, then you should say something about it.
