Probably best to make the professional development case - been there for a year (seems like a while), and would like the opportunity to learn different team structures / industries / types of engagements / etc. Feel like it’s hard to be upset w/ someone who contributed to your team for so long and wants a change of pace for professional growth
Burn the darn bridge. Who cares? With the way you described him, chances are he has 0 influence and even his colleagues probably despise him
If you’re staff your practice should want you to be exposed to different projects
Best way to get out is to reach out and find yourself another project, then build the case that you have learnt a lot in the past year and want to move on to learning new things in the other one. Best way is to communicate to the partner level your intentions and let them hash it out and fight for you. This way someone else is the bad guy snatching you away onto another project, you should never have to be the bad guy
