I’m an L6 SDM at Amazon but a Meta recruiter sent me an M2 sdm job description. I have all the XP I need from previous job experience but does Meta keep your same level as Amazon? Meaning if I am an L6 at Amazon am I automatically interviewing at M1 or can I jump to an M2?Amazon Facebook (Meta)

It’s (more than likely) not you. It’s them. Focus on that and think the universe/God/whomever that you didn’t have to stay in an environment not appreciative of your talents and/or not aligned with what you can bring to the table. Find another door.
Think of the dating world. Other person may not choose to move forward after a few seemingly good dates, even if you have interest. Don’t know why. They may not be ready to date after all. May want something else in a relationship. Etc. It doesn’t really matter. Because it take two to commit but only one to say they don’t want to move forward.
There are three answers…
Yes.
Not yet.
There’s something better for you.
And also. I turned down another opportunity for this, so I feel bitter and back at square one.
Thank you for taking the time to reply. The recruitment process was quite hasty, so maybe that should have been my first red flag.
First let me say I’m so sorry! That is such a terrible experience 💛
Second, don’t forget that startups are volatile and often times run by people who have little to no experience… given that this happened just one month in and they gave terrible feedback on why, I can’t imagine this is a reflection of you or your work.
Some questions that could help you process and reflect:
Do you respect the leaders at the company?
What made you take this role over the one you turned down?
Do you feel proud of the work you did while there? (reminder: one month is not much time at all… you’d still be getting to know the company and the needs of the role at that point)
While there, was the management good or were things chaotic and not well managed?
Do you feel there is anything you would have done differently looking back?

You don’t have to reflect on these! My aim is to help your mind move past the pain this kind of experience validly causes, so you aren’t negatively affected moving forward. It seems like getting any kind of real info and closure from the startup isn’t an option so I recommend processing what you can and trusting your instincts. Maybe there’s something to learn here, ideally things that will help you as you make your next moves!!
Sending you good energy 💫 This sucks and it will pass! I promise ☺️
Oh my gosh, you just made my day! I’m so happy that you found our convo helpful 💫 and I’m so glad you have a good support system as well. I know some people go through this without one — and I just can’t even imagine how awful that must be.
It’s great that time is helping you realize you’re not at fault! Your confidence will continue to build 😊
And oof, yeah… I know that feeling of “okay now what though ?!” My mind goes to the question: what do you want to be doing? Maybe a brainstorm on what you liked about this last role and what you didn’t could help ? Like, performance aside what parts of the job made you feel good and what drew you to accept their offer? That could help the brain move into application mode as you gear up to find your next adventure! I think focusing on what excites and motivates you is a good way to gain some momentum and direction.
And I’m sure the job you passed on is in the rear view but curious if that’s something that could still be in the table? Once I was at a company and our top pick passed on the role, they checked in a few months later saying their plans had fallen through and asked if we were still looking / open to talking. It was definitely a little weird given they had rejected the offer but we ended up bringing them on as a contractor! So if you’re feeling bummed you didn’t go that route, it *might* be worth checking…
I’m just so glad you’re moving through the frustration and confusion of this so quickly, yet another sign that you’re a healthy and professional human!! 😉
They hired you just 30 days ago, and they already changed their priorities? Sounds like they have no clue what they're doing. You're better off no longer being on a sinking ship.
You’re probably right. Slowly but surely becoming comfortable with that realization as well.
The last news I heard was that they’ve brought in an (unpaid) intern(s) to fill my position. So they’re definitely setting the bar for how they value people, and how they want to build their brand.
Oh, well. Doing my best to stay out of the bitter barn. Thanks for your reply btw.
