Downtown Toronto Insurance Defence - what’s the grid looking like these days? Is 120k for a third year associate (1600 billable) asking too much?

No. Toronto scale is 110-130 for most first years at mid-sized to large firms. I guess it depends on if this firm only does ID, which changes things (for the worst).

Might be a long shot, but wanted to see if this bowl could share any wisdom/insight. A friend has been offered a role as an independent contractor commercial counsel for a pre IPO tech company in NYC (roughly 10-20 hrs/wk) with the possibility of becoming a full time offer. He has roughly 3 yoe and was at a V10 firm doing tech transactions work but took time off for health. Would appreciate any insights into what a reasonable hourly wage would be to offer up in negotiations. Thanks in advance!

New Orleans attorneys: my firm is trying to gather data on billable requirements, rates, and salaries because it’s been experiencing crazy turnover lately. If you’re comfortable, it would be helpful if those in New Orleans or similar markets can share this information. I’ll go first: 1. Firm’s primary practice: insurance defense; 2. Firm size: 25-50 attorneys; 3. Billable requirement: 1950 annual; 4. Salary range for 1-5 year associates: 70k-100k; 5. Salary for 5-8 year associates: 100k-125k.

I have a job offer for home health PT in the Chicagoland suburbs. The owner stated the wages depend on how I file my taxes- which threw me off guard. I am filing with a w4 and was offered $67 per visit. Would this be average? Salary websites do not indicate anything about different taxes. A w9/1099 would most likely be a higher wage but I am not interested in filing that way.

I need help making up my mind on where to attend.

So I have two offers on the table : Tuck vs Yale SOM. I am getting 40k scholarship from Tuck and nothing from Yale.

I'm planning on going into consulting afterwards and am not sure what school to attend. I know Tuck's group oriented teaching is slightly more geared towards consulting.

What has been making me hesitate is the global presence of what Yale has in its name.

Would you say Yale has almost equal chance of getting into MBB as Tuck?

I’m a recent call at a global law firm. When are bonus’ paid out generally? End of February? Thanks.

I’m a junior litigation lawyer based in Windsor looking to lateral to corporate big law. I have been doing commercial litigation, tax litigation, and tax planning. I’ve done corporate reorganization, corporate structuring, rollovers so corporate would not be completely new to me. I did a solicitor rotation during articling and was involved with several m&a deals. Has anyone managed to make the jump from litigation in Windsor to Toronto big law corporate? Your advice is greatly appreciated.
