Quitting my job soon and am thinking about becoming a therapist/counsellor for lawyers and other high stress professions. Taking a poll on whether you would be attracted to the idea of a therapist who worked in biglaw and could speak to burnout, perfectionism and other mental health issues we typically face as lawyers. Thanks :)

Perhaps speak with Doron Gold? He’s a former practicing lawyer now doing counselling. Great resource.

Great idea. Thank you!

I would love this! I tried a therapist once but being a non-lawyer she just didn’t get it. It felt like a useless exercise working with someone who couldn’t relate.

So happy to hear that this would be helpful!

Yes 100% would be interested in this!

I have worked with a lawyer turned therapist and have found it helpful. Good luck.

I wouldn’t trust. What qualifies you to offer therapy?

I’m getting licensed. It’s just a focus area.

A colleague and I were tasked with rolling out an ongoing training. I’ve done 90+% of the work and am annoyed she’s receiving credit by the broader team. I’ve spoken to her about distribution of work, but she does none of what she’s assigned to (she’s acknowledged handling the tasks and has the bandwidth) and acts like it’s a new ask the 2nd/3rd time I follow up. Watching US salaries increase AGAIN and wondering why Canadian firms don’t have the same pressure to follow these raises. Is it the relatively small number of big firms? Is it that all the big firm managers work together to keep the market in line? Is it the lack of reporting in the Canadian legal press? I feel like we are all getting screwed.

There is almost nowhere to find reliable bonus information on Canadian firms. I’ve heard of year end bonuses ranging from 10-50% this year (not including Covid bonuses). Let’s start a thread posting year of call, rough billable hours worked and bonus as a percent of salary.

Any word on bonuses?
