Do Canadian firms have any interest in hiring American JDs given the market and that Canadian associates are moving to the US?

Have an offer from AWS for an L7 Principal PMT role: $215k base + $275k sign on bonus for Year 1 and $215k for year 2 + 5100 RSUs (@ $130 / share). This is the initial offer; where is there room for negotiation? Base or Sign on Bonus or RSUs? I realize it's a good offer, but I'm looking for: $225k base + existing sign on + 5500 RSUs. Does that sound like a decent counter?

I currently work as an APM at a FAANG company but recently received an offer to join an MBB. I’m very excited about the role but didn’t realize I’d need to take a pay cut when I applied (~100k base + ~20k bonus + ~60k equity vs. 90k base + 10-20k bonus). Considering that I currently work 40-60 hours/week, I’ll be making significantly less per hour at the MBB. How difficult would it be for a well-credentialed US lawyer (approx 7 YOE) to qualify and practice in Toronto? Watching US salaries increase AGAIN and wondering why Canadian firms don’t have the same pressure to follow these raises. Is it the relatively small number of big firms? Is it that all the big firm managers work together to keep the market in line? Is it the lack of reporting in the Canadian legal press? I feel like we are all getting screwed.

Trying to rid myself of ID work and get into commercial lit at big shop. I’m just about a year in, and so I was wondering if it makes sense to go to a smaller/midsized shop first then see where I’m at in 3-5 years if big law is still a goal.
