BAD CLIENTS

Not a client but an old manager: there is no reason we shouldn’t be able to do high quality work that is fast, good and cheap. He’s the head of production at a major agency.

General rule that has helped me: You can have 2 out of those 3 things. Which do you pick? Fast and good isn’t cheap. Cheap and fast won’t be good. Good and cheap won’t be fast. The exception can sometimes be a social media post. Haven’t found it work with all 3 elsewhere.

My CCO once suggested we aim to create work that is fast, good, and cheap.... I asked him to provide an example. Crickets.

At AD1. That’s my point. For a producer to say the opposite is basically unheard of.

I always say it's possible, but you only get it once. I then ask if this is the project they want to blow the golden favor on. They usually back off.

Judging that only 2 of those 3 can coexist, it sounds like the Titanic is brewing; proceed with caution!

Scene: reached out to a firm colleague on a different workstream on our v. large project. Offered edit rights on an easy deliverable as it applies to their workstream. They are a higher staff level, and they sent it back with a “homework assignment” with things they want me to update. My reaction is that I want to blatantly ignore it because I wasn’t looking for more work to do. For those that are 4-6 years post MBA, can you help me understand whether I should have asked in the first place?

How much does timing matter when someone refers you to a FAANG role? Have contacts willing refer me but some of the postings I’m interested in seem old (week+). Not sure if I should ask them to refer me now or wait a bit for something new to come up, to avoid having to bug them multiple times. I’m looking at Product Manager roles, which I see get posted fairly frequently.
