November is in swing! What is something you feel proud of this year in how you've been able to contribute to DEI efforts or something you've seen that you're proud of someone else for?

I filed an OEO complaint against my employer this year. Even though they swept the whole thing under the rug, I laid their crap out bare for the administration to see and forced them to realize how corrupt HR, senior management, and the lawyers were acting. Sometimes, showing the ugly face of corruption is enough to cause change.

That take so much courage. You should be proud! sometimes we're only cracking the doors for others

My team initiated a project that would make the work space more safe for LGBTQIA+ employees. It took a lot for us to get it approved and it took months to get it off the ground, but so many employees have come up to me saying how much they appreciate it.

like

Yes for sure. We implemented "Safe Space Training" where everyone is educated on how to support the LGBTQIA+ community and how to use the correct terminology.

This is small in the grand scheme of things but I'm actually really proud of a rewards and recognition program I rolled out for my team. It was a really simple change and piggy backed on an existing tool but we saw really quick adoption across the team!

I’ve treated everyone with respect regardless of demographic. I have based value on the results of their work and effort given, not a measurement of anything else

💲For those who DON'T think a six figure salary is possible:

👉Just ask for it. Really, you would be surprised. Might be easier to switch to a new company and ask. I did that 3 years into my career.

And 🛑 wasting your time at a company that under-values you severely. Sometimes switching companies every 2 years or so will allow you to keep raising the bar for yourself.

Hi - I am a career pivot from higher education into tech and have final round interviews for a DEI Coordinator role (which I'm super excited for). I am meeting with three people that I would be partnering with for the job and it was shared with me that these interviews will mainly be behavioral as well as questions on my technical skills. Does anyone have any resources to help me prepare for this? Anything is greatly appreciated!

In honor of National Voter Registration Day, The New Yorker released the transcript of a previously unpublished interview with James Baldwin, who gave a first-hand account of "Freedom Day 1963," a Black voter-registration drive in Selma, Alabama. Baldwin's descriptions from that day are so vivid and detailed that you can feel the fear and anger of the event. If you have a couple of minutes, I highly recommend you read it.

I'm in desperate need of tips to get genuine buy in from our predominantly white, male senior leadership to create a more inclusive environment. As is often the case, middle management and below is very diverse and then at Director+ it gets much more homogeneous. So far any real initiatives get shot down in favor of performative actions to post on SM. Is this just how it is, or can we try something different?

We all have beautiful names and we should all be addressed by those names and the pronouns that we identify with. I particularly like Erik and you can refer to me as He/Him or They/Them.

At MNP, we foster an inclusive and safe environment for all to openly share their pronouns. We respect the pronouns that you choose to identify with.

Feeling very frustrated right now…company talks a big game about DEI internally, while requiring new hires to move to Texas/Arizona, while the company’s PAC donates to politicians pushing extremist, regressive, anti-woman and anti-LGBT laws

They want to encourage us to “bring our whole self to work” while putting us in situations where we can’t be our whole self.

Anyone else in a similar place, feeling discouraged? Any tips?

Hi all,

My boss makes jokes about me being from a different country whenever there is a work meeting or a gathering with coworkers, even though he knows where I am from. This usually occurs when I meet new work-related people or for example if I am in a situation that involves ethnic related subjects.

What is this? This is normal?

Stereotyping?
Racism?

The first time I ignored that, but now it has become a pattern and is bothering me now. I am south-American working in the UK.

Working at a company and they can’t seem to hold on to their female, black and people of color employees. I blinked and 3 of the people who were in my onboarding class were either fired or they left. For context I’ve been in company less than a year and there are people who have been in the company 25yrs. I’m thinking of cutting loose before it gets to my turn.

How do you deal with your “mentor” being threatened by your performance and gatekeeping information from you? Then turning around and giving you shit for not knowing things… but they don’t tell you anything and there is no way for you to know. My learning and development is being hindered and I’ve felt this for a long time, but coworker just confirmed this is the case. Now that I know I’m not “crazy” for thinking this, how should I approach this?
