I totally feel you on this! I spend at least 50-75% of my time in meetings or traveling to meetings. It is wild. On my days with fewer meetings, I try to block out 2-hour increments of focus time and then knock things off my list in order of priority.

That’s a good tactic to take. I find myself leveraging my Friday to get as much work done as possible. Sometimes it works out well. Same with Monday but Tues - Thurs are packed.
I feel like I waste way too much time in meetings. The problem is that a lot of people think the meetings are the work, when to me they often seem like the opposite. I do what I can to avoid meetings, but those efforts generally don't work too well, and there I am, listening to people spinning their wheels.

Oooo I like this thought. The meetings are in fact not the work, at least not until you move high up the ladder. Leadership should be in the meeting for the most part while translating that work into delegation for the staff.
Depends a lot on the week. For example this past week and next week I am jam packed with meetings. Finding time for regular work is going to be difficult. I do try to have some do not disturb ‘busy’ blocks on the days in between so I can focus and get something completed.

I’ve tried the “busy” time on the calendar but it was difficult to stick to that as stuff picked up. And then there’s the folks who don’t even look at your calendars and just throw time on it. So yea. It’s been a challenge.
I probably spend 25% of my week in meetings. Some of them are essential to understanding what's coming down the pipeline, but I'd say at least half could be nixed or turned into emails without any real downside.

I always ask if this upcoming meeting could just be a well worded email. Sometimes I get in trouble for it, sometimes I don’t - but I always ask lol.
