10-15 years ago, I would’ve called it unprofessional.
Today , when people are getting replaced by machines while one dude has a worth of a mid size country , do what is best for you.
That will most definitely burn some bridges. If that isn’t something you care about or if it’s not a risk for your career, go for it.

If somebody happened to get an incredible offer 2 months after joining, that sucks for us, but I get it.
If a person joins knowing they're going to quit in 6 weeks, then I'm wasting A LOT of my time training them for no reason. Bridge burned, and I'm texting my friends in the industry to avoid them in the future

Unless you really need the money, enjoy the 6 week break! Hang with family, travel somewhere, get deep into a hobby, etc.
Many people go literal decades of their working life without a break that long
Please don’t do this, we had a guy leave after 2 months right before a big conference we had to attend. He really screwed us over.
If you’re not planning to stay, let them hire someone who will.
I’d probably do it tbh or just enjoy the time off before the new job. Companies have no problem laying people off with no notice so you have no obligation to stay any period of time in a job
See if they can hire you on a contract basis
why? do you need the money?
You're never going to have this free time again in your life before you start your full-time position. Don't waste it working.
No
Companies lay people off all the time. They screw you when they let you go and they don’t care about your obligations. So I don’t see anything wrong with working until your next job begins and leaving prior to the start. Burning bridges happens in life but make sure you don’t have to go back into the town. The soon to be ex company will hire or promote someone eventually so their new issue is not your concern. Live life and enjoy yourself because at the end of the day none of this stuff matters. Life is about doing what you enjoy and spending time with those who matter.
The thing is that you are not just screwing “the company”, but the people there who spend weeks training and guiding you, maybe on top of their usual responsibilities and deliverables.
I had to do that once when I had to train 3 replacements of my counterpart in the span of just a few months, because two people each only stayed for about a month.
Just to provide some context, I’m coming out of mba and this would be a sales position for a car dealership. I really want to gain the skillset and think I could bring value. So it’s a mix of money and capability for me. I really want to do it. I’ll be heading to a job after that pays 175k. But I just want something to do and don’t really want to travel or anything (feel I’ve done a ton during my time). I really want to learn how to sell
Oh OK I came from the automotive vendor world, I get exactly what you're talking about;
benefits:
- you will learn a lot about how to read people
- it is a quick way to make 30 or 40K if you hustle, and learn how to work the financing
-it will be that much harder to fleece you on future car purchases
-quitting quickly is not that big a deal, happens all the time
Go for it!
Don’t worry about burning any bridges here. Congratulations! Don’t look back!
