For an agency to have a dedicated social media department in the year of our lord 2025 feels a little weird to me.
Agree. It’s almost like saying you have a dedicated TV or print team. Social is just part of the media mix now.

Even if they’re not coming up with the ideas or anything and just clicking post?
Everyone in the real creative department should leave. Forget about the social team, let’s see how long the agency itself survives
It’s getting the whole department down. And we’re told we need to be more like social creatives and everyone needs to embrace social but all of the ideas were from us already? And they’re just helping with the placements and the media part of it all. Is this normal? Anyone else?
We have a specialized design dept that does this as well. I’m in production and shot the whole video for $5 and they designed (read: not animated) a logo treatment and they are like - look at our gold cannes lion!

I am a big proponent of rotating teams and not have exclusive social teams. I worked at an agency that would have a team work on the TikTok and Insta for one quarter and then move them to other stuff, and have someone else do the next quarter’s socials and so on. That way, nobody gets burned out on it and everyone gets to take a stab at big visibility stuff like SB and broadcast and also other things to round out their experience and book. At least when it comes to hrs, mid levels and seniors
Are they producing it? So it’s like they “did” the IRL work to get the post going so it’s more of a social production arm instead of a social concepting team? Or are they literally just doing the media stuff lol
Yep like someone has the idea for the thing, makes the video and then the social media dept will find some influencer to do some boosting of it and then all of a sudden the whole idea came from social media
Sounds like TBWA NY in 2015 with Aki Spicer and gang. My suggestion is to go with the flow and not burn bridges.
