Our firm is running thin at the staff level. Is it better to:

1. Take on a heavy load and do it satisfactory or
2. Take on a moderate load and do it well.

Always do it well. If you take on too much and perform badly nobody will care about your workload come review time. The objection will be “we all work hard” and you won’t be there to quantify it. I got this advice early on in my career and I deeply regret that it took me years to take it on

Agreed, it’s better to get things done “right” or “well” the first time and have enough work to keep busy then take on to much. A lot of folks leave and don’t actually learn anything from taking on to much

I don't think it's your choice at that level. They are going to give you work based on your own abilities.

I think they give you work based on the output and if you deliver more they add more until you break. Management at the two big 4s I’ve been to have been extremely poor

I applied for a job and received an offer from my client. 15k+ bump in salary, better benefits/remote work, and responsibilities will give me exposure to all areas of the organization (start up). The problem is that they’re looking to staff me as a Senior when I’m currently a Manager at DT. They said they’re flexible on title, but curious to hear how others have navigated similar situations. I would report directly to the controller and have 1-2 staff reporting to me...
