Out of work for several months and starting to panic. I’ve interviewed lots. Get lots of interest but not the job- There seems to always be just one thing that doesn’t align. I’m exhausted.

go out there and hustle for freelance work so you stop panicking
hustle in general for every full time opportunity out there
go through all your connections at every single company that might be in hiring mode now or in the future
get brutal feedback on your book from ecd’s and cco’s you trust.
be open to working anywhere in the country if you can be.
good luck!

This is all good advice from Tombras 1. One of the big underlying themes when you are looking for work is the need for hustle. I know this sounds awful, and you don’t want to leave yourself exhausted for the best opportunities, but today’s reality is that you can’t be sure where the next legit situation will emerge, so you have to be turning over at least some rocks every day. Unless you are very fortunate, a great job will probably not find you, you have to really find it.

Remove anything from your resume that signifies age. I ended up lopping experience off. Did the same on LI. Create a compelling opening and leverage your network. Find a non-profit to volunteer with (keeps from having gaps also keeps work fresh and more networking), setup a freelance consulting site. I set-up 3 personal networking meetings every week. Connect directly with recruiters and ask them compelling questions to start dialogue Good luck. Ageism is real.

like

CD2, it wouldn’t matter then because you got an offer that prompted the background check. The date removals are for the gatekeepers like young clueless recruiters who assume your age/wisdom is a bad thing when you applied for a position. We need to get past them. The background check don’t tell your colleagues and hiring manager your age, that’s just to prevent hiring backlash for the company if you have a sketchy background .

One of the issues is that you are now at the stage of your career where you know what you are about. The challenge, and yet also the simple truth is that you have to keep looking for someone wise enough to be looking for exactly what YOU are.

Spoke to a “name” recruiter yesterday and she said there’s absolute ageism in that most agency recruiters are young, badly or untrained, and don’t even look at the work after seeing years in the biz or anything that clarifies age. Idiots. But hang in there, something will break for you and there are recruiters and others who “get it”...they’ll find you and vice versa.

If true, I’d suggest lopping off years from your resume.

Consider freelancing at some of the pharma shops if you haven’t already.

I was in this situation a few years back. In hindsight, I wish I’d pushed into freelance with more abandon than I did. Needless worry. Needless spending of my savings. And in the end I went FT anyways

Same, but I’m not getting the interviews as much. I’m thinking about removing some years from my resume again :/

If you’re being very focused on the types of jobs you’ll do, consider expanding your range. For example, if you’re only looking at big agencies, or only agencies with certain kinds of clients, etc., try a small agency, or pharma, or a startup, for example. Or be open to freelance instead of full-time.

How digital are you? I am searching for a CD for my 85 person office.

I’m not a traditional CD. I’m an XD Director. So, very digital, very Creative, but I don’t do TV. I’m in NYC. Willing to talk if that interests you.

I’m not a traditional CD. I’m on the Experience side of things. As a director I’ve gone through rounds of interviews and even put together 45 minute presentations as part of the interview. Each cycle is about 3 months long. I get great feedback.... then, no job. Each time there’s a different reason.

At least you’re getting feedback and are aware of the different reasons. I’d get extra insight from folks you know regarding the reasons and see if they agree. If they do agree, execute the improvement, if not, don’t sweat it, the right opportunity will come. Your value does not decrease based on someone’s inability to see it.

I am so anxious right now! Just got a job offer 2 weeks ago and still waiting on the written offer letter. I asked for an update and the recruiter reached out 2 days ago letting me know that they had some final requirements that should be approved that day so they can send the offer letter out. It’s been 2 days. My question is can I message the recruiter for an update? Will that be too annoying?

Hi! I have been seriously applying for weeks upon weeks for a scrum master position/agile coach. But it’s hard getting an offer 😢

Had a final round at BCG last Friday. After the interviews they said that the would release results today. Then I got an email today saying they will only give the results on the next Friday. What could have happened?? I also know some people how interviewed on the same day as mine and got a rejection email today.

I saw someone else do this, so imma give it a shot. Lately, I’ve been applying to iOS developer roles and I’m getting TONs of calls and callbacks from HR and recruiting managers, but then when my resume gets pushed to hiring managers they seem to often get peeved at how little years of experience I have with the title “iOS developer”…
which is fair, and to show my credibility I published my first app last week, but I’m still getting similar messages from recruiters this week. Idk what to do??

If an employee mentions something disparaging or accusatory about their manager during an exit interview, how would you handle? What happens if what the employee said is slanderous and a “he said/she said” situation? I.e. employee claimed the manager made a disparaging remark about an item of clothing being worn by someone in accordance with their beliefs. If you opt to share the feedback with the manager, would the manager have a legal case against the company or former employee?

I was recently interviewing a very good candidate who was not only technically strong but also had a very good problem solving skill. Below is his yoe and tech stack
Total yoe 11, RPA 6(AA)
Certified in all AA versions.
CCTC 25LPA
Expecting 40LPA
I felt this is a desirable ask but we didn't have enough budget to accomodate. Now we are going back to drawing board to reshuffle the budget for next FY, what would be an apt scale for someone with the profile above?

Hi everyone, current job has obnoxiously long notice period and they won’t let me leave for health reasons. Wondering what my options are if there are any? I never signed a contract for my second year in and definitely did not have an opportunity to renegotiate my terms for my second year at the job. Right now I’m overworked and really want to step away but my job is not letting me do so. Would love some advice if i should involve lawyers vs continue talk to my bosses (who have not been helpful)
