Partners at smaller firms (30ish attys), would you consider giving a market raise plus an annual raise and a bonus to one of your mid-level lit attorneys? Or is that a big ask from that attorney? I will say I don’t know what that market raise that I want to ask for to look like - maybe extra $20k for market, $15k for annual, and $10k for bonus. But the facts are I work more cases, handle more cases without other associates, am in the office everyday, and regularly work on business development.

I have a partner that calls me multiple times a day to talk about updates on our cases. Sometimes just to ask “anything to update me on?” He’s known across all of the associates for doing this. Most of the calls repeat information I’ve already provided in emails to him or the client. I normally bill this time as “strategize on” or “consider XYZ in further of” and it keeps getting appealed. We have motion sensor lights in my office and the sensor is far from my desk. Consequently, if I'm on a long WebEx, the lights go out and it's embarrassing. The building won't change the sensor. Anyone find a solution for this (aside from standing up and moving, which would be very awkward)? I can't rearrange my office.
