This has been the toughest year since the financial crisis of 2007-2008 and the first year of SOX in 2004. I thought I'd confirm that, since many people that might respond have not been in the business as long as I have. You are not imagining things.
Frankly, a confluence of events. We have clients and audit teams that are in office, hybrid, or remote, depending on the day of the week or the specific company (and every single one of my clients is doing something different), comparatively undertrained lower level resources both at clients and on my own teams because they worked from home the last few years and did not get the same experiences as prior generations did (not their fault, but that doesn't change facts), an economy that went from throwing ridiculous amounts of money at marginal resources because they were happy to get anyone to a slowdown in the blink of an eye, silly inflation caused by both pandemic recovery and suboptimal governmental policies, regime change in regulators causing uncertainty, and changes within my own organization to react to all of the other changes. I'm hoping that we will get some stability and consistency as we move further away from the pandemic and with no more big elections for the next 2 years (gridlock in Congress is good for business), but what Powell does ultimately can change things well beyond what he intends as we try to tame inflation. In the meantime, we plan to focus on helping enhance the training of our own teams to meet the new challenges of changes in the business climate.
Been here over 10 years. This is by far the worst. While our guidance improved, My teams are so burned out that I'm catching obvious mistakes all over the place. Good, competent people too, messing up basic stuff.
I would expect high inspection findings again next year until our teams can catch their breath
I've heard the same thing from my friends. Some of them couldn't handle the stress.
Yes, I think so. Post-Covid season was the hardest. From a fully remote set-up to a hybrid one. From inflation to layoffs.
Man this year has been TOUGH. Just don't think we've really been getting a beak and it's starting to feel relentless. All these working styles are just not working for me, and it's been tough
Hi! It's not the worst but definitely not the best either. The stress is overflowing.
