Personal situation is taking me away from the states to live in a very remote area with little to no job opportunities. This move will be ~4years. Im a financial advisor and have been for the last 6 years and in the industry for 10yr. Because of this situation im considering on focusing on earning the CFA and maybe doing some sort of part time low skill job. In hopes that when I can come back state side I can work with clients with more complex needs or UHNW clients. How big of risk is this?

Another risk you may run into is your Series licenses expiring and having to retake them. I think there is a program to keep them active as long you do your CEs but I would double check how that works.

What about a CFP certificate? I’m unclear as to why your clients wouldn’t stick with you through the move and back? (Unless clients belong to co. You currently work for

Definitely some risk, but pursuing the CFA is a smart move and will strengthen your profile for UHNW clients when you’re back. If you can stay somewhat connected to the industry while away, even better. Good luck

Thank you. Can you help me understand some of the risks? One big glaring one is ill be giving up an excellent income right now. In your opinion what else should I be considering in terms of risks?

Have you looked for remote jobs? I know people who travel all the time and no one cares because they’re remote

Im actively looking for remote work that, but FINRA/SEC make it difficult to live abroad and work with US based clients. So trying to navigate that as best I can.

Just became an ACD. Im in a limbo. Half of the time im being treated as a Super Senior AD and the other half im being treated as a Almost CD. Then when im scoped over work that my CD and I oversee, some people are asking me how does my role differ from the CD’s, as they tend to look at me as an unnecessary layer for approvals. In a way, i do the job so well that i get asked to do more AD projs and guide more projs — but then: wtf does my CD do? They mostly just 👍🏻what i direct n approve

Advice needed on handing in notice, I recently signed an offer letter and understand the screening process takes 4-6 weeks. I have a month's notice period and have agreed a preliminary start date in Feb.

I was planning on not handing my notice in until the checks had been completed so its all secured (not that I think I will fail any checks), but apparently I need a reference from my current employer not previous ones. Can't really do this without handing in notice can I?

Just found out that end of the year I will be promoted from analyst directly to VP and since it’s such a large jump I’ll be the lowest paid VP in asset management at only $135k TC. Should I stay it out and wait for TC to align or take the promotion and jump ship bc I will likely get paid more elsewhere given how recruiters/other companies eat up hiring recently promoted ppl from other firms?

Is there such things as FP&A positions in Big 4? If so, are there better times to make the change than others (I.e. at senior vs manager)? I’m currently in FP&A and looking to work at a Big 4, or another company that offers the ability to move abroad. My current company and many others I know about do not offer the mobility to do so until much later, which is not what I want. Thank you.
