Preschool classrooms often look so different from kindergarten classrooms. What are some of the ways you bridge the gap?

In my last district, we ran quarterly focus groups where we videotaped teachers in our district in both kindergarten and preschool classrooms. We talked about practices that were the same, common goals, and each group decided to adopt one practice from the other (kindergarten teachers adopted 6 Steps of Conflict Resolution and pre-k teachers adopted Pyramid Model expectations from the elementary school). I think everyone really gained something from that regular time to connect and work on a common goal.

I love this idea!

We do not attempt to bridge the gap with room arrangement. We fully believe in the research in early childhood and embrace the early years. We assist with transition in other ways.

I teach Transitional Kindergarten (Pre-K in a TK-6 public school)my room is set up in Centers fashion like Preschool, but I integrate Kindergarten like rotations and routines. There is a balance for developmentally appropriate learning and introduction to Kindergarten expectations:

Soap Box Moment- we should not look different. Kindergarten used to look like our PreK/early childhood classrooms. Maybe K needs to bridge the gap to us?

I teach K and we have centers using kinder leveled activities, Ex: make letters/words with Play-Doh, coloring, and learning games. We still have a rest time and lots of opportunities to move around.

I'm transitioning from teaching 8th grade mathematics at a public school to teaching a 7/8 self-contained classroom at a charter school.
Any advice for teaching mixed grade levels or multi subject is appreciated: scheduling, classroom setup, subject order, behavior management, etc. I'm struggling to find my rhythm with only 6 weeks before kids return.
Thanks to everyone for your commitment and time, enjoy your summer!

Good Evening My Fellow Christian Educators! I realize it is going to be challenging for me this year...with so many of my students performing below grade level expectations in ELA and MATH and also ensuring that all students follow the COVID Guidelines in the classroom. I still feel hopeful that God will bless me with the knowledge on how to effectively impact each one of those kids. Let's remember to keep all educators lifted in prayer this year.
Have a wonderful school year!!
God Bless All❤️

I can manage my classroom better if I don’t respond to emails outside of office hours. This gives my mind a break and by consequence refreshes me for the next day. It also sets a boundary.

I’ve suffered from workaholism for a long time. Thanks to a lot of great self help books and therapy, I’m no longer putting work on a pedestal and I’m spending a lot more time on self care and my marriage. But, unfortunately, I am now getting withdrawals, because my body is used to the daily adrenaline of throwing myself into work. It’s this terrible feeling of like anguish/unease in my gut, but I don’t have anything I’m worried about- it’s like my body wants to find something to worry about.
