I was in BigLaw for 9 years and left because I hit my savings target. FIRE kept me motivated. I’m now primarily supporting my wife’s career (BigLaw counsel) as her job has unparalleled flexibility and she legit enjoys it, so we’ll use that to get the rest of the way to full financial independence. For myself, I’m currently focused on writing, wildlife photography, and fitness goals. Its unlikely that I will return to the legal field in the future. I’ve written more about it here if interested: https://www.attorneyevolved.com/post/biglaw-early-retirement

I mean, I LOVE it. Totally dependent on what you value. I don’t think the pressure is any different than any other AM role, and you just find a place that will give you a semi cushy base. The commission is all gravy. I also like to be incentivized for working above and beyond. It sucks when you’re killing yourself for something and there’s no extra cash flowing in, and you see someone else making the same and doing less. To each their own! Advertising Sales AM roles are tough to get with big companies, but man are they worth the effort if you’re eager to work hard!
All the comments I’m seeing are as if you’re doing the sales however I’ve been in a few AM roles on sales team and it was only post sale. I didn’t do the sales nor did I make commission as I managed the accounts once we won them. I worked at start ups mostly and enjoyed it but sales people can be annoying and difficult so you have them as another internal layer that can sometimes suck.
Dreadful. Don’t. You MIGHT make more money but your success is wholly dependent on other people’s decisions.
Cold calling and cold emailing. No responses & when they do, they’re pissed
Just came to echo this sentiment. Having worked in account management positions in traditional agency positions and advertising sales positions I absolutely hated the advertising sales position. Just dreadful unrealistic expectations impossible to manage I hated it. Traditional account management jobs you manage the account vs sales you are constantly hunting and prospecting very different.
