Seeing that Debevoise opened an SF office, and out of idle curiosity, what sort of incentives would be offered to the associates who move across the country to open it?
Can anyone speak to their experience at Debevoise? Looking at a potential lateral opportunity. I know it’s big law and I’m coming from another big law shop so more than familiar with the grind. 4th ye…
What is the actual hours / billing expectations for mid level funds associates at K&E, STB, and Debevoise in NYC?
Anyone doing fund formation at Debevoise, Ropes or Goodwin willing to answer a couple questions? Much appreciated!
I actually don’t know much about compensation increases that come with promotions. What does the typical % increase look like for an internal recruiter? Just trying to understand all of the things.
To those who have several years of experience ion TA: Do you think staying in the campus recruiting space limits you? Should one try to get exposure to other HR areas for the long run?
Love my practice are in every way but really lacking motivation right now. That is all.
I am a first year associate in Biglaw. I have been put on an improvement plan to increase my billable hours. My supervisors have commented that have not been getting work because I need to improve my efficiency. I am willing to do what it takes to improve but wonder how to improve my hours when no one seems willing to give me a second chance.
Anyone else’s billables pathetic this month despite the fact that we’re in our 5th week of January? 🤣
I graduated from law school in 2007, went to big law and was laid off in 2009 due to the Great Recession. I went back to school and got my LLM in tax, after a stint at big 4, I got back into big law but was asked to start over as a first year. Years later, close to partnership and being mentored in that direction, I lost my job due to something completely out of my control that I can’t get into. I always wanted to make partner, but I’m struggling at my new firm with not enough work (p. 1)
You’re constantly showing up for everyone else, but who’s showing up for you? I started an initiative to coach HR/people leaders because I know what it’s like to be doing all the things for everyone else with little support or focus on your own well-being, growth and development. It’s a lonely game! I’d be delighted to create the space to make you a priority. Would love to offer a free session, or simply connect: https://www.chrisrollins.me/peopleleaders.
Any foreign attorneys feeling lost while working towards their master’s of law in US and working towards getting bar admission? Being an Indian-trained attorney, I still await to sit for bar (this year delay pandemic) but always curious about how things turn out for other foreign attorneys here on F1 visa.
Curious about non-US attorneys: are you working the crazy hour weeks most of us in the US do? Or are your weeks closer to 40 hours? I hear a lot about the working hour caps, vacation requirements, etc in Europe/Canada. Curious if that flows into legal practice... or if it gets ignored. To clarify—I’m talking about BigLaw. I’m sure there are smaller firms with reasonable hours, the same exists in the US.
Anyone here work at PwC in North America? Curious about the work culture and if there's anything to watch out for
I am looking to gain certification or other credentialing in diversity and inclusion, not only because it would look good on my resume both for future job-search purposes and also to become better educated in this area, which is growing in importance. I looked at SHRM's "Inclusive Workplace Culture Specialty Credential" and got a bit of "sticker shock" at the cost - $1,655.00 for members. Does anyone have other suggestions on training/credentialing in this area?
I need to spend a good 3-4 hours doing some organizational shit today. I have a bunch of new cases and cases with new deadlines, and it’s going to take a bit to figure out how I’m going to manage everything. It’ll make my life easier and less scrambled in the long run... but there’s so much billable work I should be doing. How do you convince yourself to do all the nonbillable stuff that’s necessary for case management when you’re already pressed for time?
Hoping to get my PHR in the next year or so. Outside of employer reimbursement, are there other opportunities for this to get funded? I know SHRM Foundation offers scholarships for the CP, but I am looking for PHR specific help. Thank you! :)
First time founder - would you recommend square, stripe or something else for purchases between $150-$10k or what alternatively?
I’m looking for a screening tool that will assess a candidate’s proficiency with MS-Teams. Would anyone know if there is such a thing that exists?
Any intel on culture/reputation of Schneider Wallace Cottrell Konecky LLP, particularly in California?
Job hunting: For writing samples, would employers prefer a redacted due diligence memo (PowerPoint format) or a redacted memorandum?
I’m planning to buy the study materials for the SHRM-CP certificate through Amazon. What are the best ones to obtain?
Do any AmLaw 200 firms offer fee splitting for associates? As a senior associate, I originate more than my salary and I know that many others with the same title in my firm originate little/nothing. Yet we are all paid about the same base and our bonuses are underwhelming. Sounds like a rant but am just curious.
I produce “digital” for money and content for passion. Can I get paid to do both? Any agencies with actual “integrated” production departments? I’m sick of sites and banners.
How’s EYP compensation now after the meeting? I have 3 yoe and will they let me come in as a consultant or a senior associate?
A more specific follow up from earlier post. And thanks to everyone. I am going to be starting a specialty consulting business with a colleague and will immediately hire one salaried employee. We will have enough revenue and want to offer full benefits and 401k, for owners also. I talked to TriNet (suggested here as a good PEO) but they need a minimum of 5 employees. I would like to have someone manage payroll, benefits, and 401k. Any other suggestions?
H1B extension approved. Did anyone got their stamping done during Covid? I know embassies are closed and taking emergency appointments only. Anyone willing to share their experience?
What’s the scoop on layoffs at D?
How do you access your 401k account after leaving the firm? I have always gone through benefit express but can’t figure how to access it externally
There’s nothing I want more than to quit today, take a break and then go freelance but I’m so scared. Rent, no steady plan for prospective clients, health insurance... so terrifying. (Contd)
Any H1B success stories here?
H1B fishies, I need some information regarding credit cards. I opened a student credit card with citi in 2015 and had a low credit line as expected. As I made more money, I got another card and my credit line increased etc. However, citi is now telling me that I do not have the correct documents to verify my identity and they needed info. Which was fine - I faxed my Drivers license and H1b approval to their fraud department and followed up multiple times. Now they are telling me that I need this
Planning a trip to Puerto Rico solo in July and Im a Marriotter so will be using points to go. Please drop any suggestions for anything - hotels, restaurants etc.
I'm so sure I'm not in a job I enjoy.. I feel pressurized and so tensed and have that constant thought of office and work all the time.. I've been applying for new opportunities night and day.. Fingers crossed that I may get to switch soon..
Currently 2nd year consultant in EY Adv-PI and will become a senior consultant in October. Thinking about making the switch to a firm where my MBA will be sponsored before moving further up. Thoughts?
Hi everyone - I am looking for a new corporate transactional role and would appreciate your support. Thank you in advance for any connections, advice, or opportunities you can offer.
