By “long term disability,” do you mean income protection insurance? If so, the insurance company decides, not HR. In fact, medical information should typically not be given to the employer and only sent to the insurance company.
You can be denied if there’s not enough medical evidence for your request. And a company can terminate your employment even when you are on short term or long term disability. Only protected from being let go while on FLMA leave.
I had to be on long term disability with my employer and they asked for a note from the doctor regarding my reason for it…
They shouldn't have unless they are self-insured and administering their own LTD program.
