Hey! Any Google folks know if it’s possible to negotiate fully remote if a contract role is hybrid? Personally, I don’t want to relocate and go to the office on a contract role given the current economy. Plus, I’m assuming contractors are the first to go in layoffs. I just think it’s a fair trade off if I’d be allowed to work fully remote. I’m also trying to have flexibility to manage my Airbnb business in a different country. Same time zone as the home office if I’d travel weeks at a time.
McKinsey & Company I am joining the McKinsey & Company Boston office in late July and searching for housing in the meantime. If I could get some insight on the ratio of days in the office vs work from home that would be super helpful!
If I need to come into the office regularly I will try to find a place close by.
PwC A recruiter from PWC reached out to me to ask if I’d consider a different office the one I applied to, since it’s full. It would be Boston, Hartford, Chicago, Minneapolis, Little Rock, Denver, San Francisco or San Jose. MSA candidate. Is there a fully remote option? Do you have to be in the office all the time? Is the compensation high at PWC? Is there a possible moving expenses? Any insight or advice would help me make a decision. Thank you!

It all depends because not all remote jobs require you to be glued to your seat. Example sometimes remote work is done through Microsoft teams and if you have that on your phone with the company then you can receive information from them. Or you can have that other application called slack. Not too crazy about these things where they can micromanage you but at least it saves you gas. I like working from home because it saves me from having to deal with people, face-to-face. I like to just do the tickets on service now and send them an email and let them know what happened and then move onto the next thing without any unnecessary conversations that open any emotions that can get you in trouble
Do you have any suggestions?
Looking for an alternative to peopley jobs. Where do you work?
Going from working in the office every day to being at home all day long was a strange adjustment. After creating my own work space that provided a professional yet personal atmosphere the comfort distracted the feeling of isolation, but the days when it's been too long since I had any sort of communication with my team I devised a plan ahead of time and some with my closest coworkers to see if they'd be on board. They loved the idea. My department is internal so I don't speak with customers and since we've been working remotely I only connect with other employees via email or teams. I was losing motivation and dreaded each morning and begin again.
We decided on the days we feel completely disconnected or irrelevant that we would simply call each other through teams. We weren't working on anything together, but we were able to have conversation and companionship throughout the time we scheduled for each other. It completely changed my attitude and I felt positive in regards to my job and the days ahead because I had the security of knowing if I couldn't handle another far isolated, then I didn't have to. It was like being in the office again just without seeing their face.
I know it sounds like a waste of unnecessary, but trust me. It increased my productivity and improved my attitude towards my job.
It might benefit you as well. You never know until you try.
Sorry for all the typos, it's late and I'm too tired to proofread. Hopefully you understood what I was explaining.
