FP&A is more of experience based skill, can't be learned just like reading a book. FP&A is a step up of R2R and will be a good career option when you have:
1. Got Communication Skills
2. Understands the entire Financials, not just Assets, not just Liabilities, not just Revenue, not just Expenses, but almost everything.
3. Good decision making skills (depends on the level - early career may not involve that much of this)
Dont fake it BCOS if you get interviewed by a Pro, he will catch you in no time. Better start saying I want to transition my career BCOS I understand Financials well, so it will give a boost to my career, etc.
Hope it gives you some clarity
Category 1 Without showing in resume your cv will not be shortlisted no one wants to listen the story i want to transition as they will find out a better alternative who has the experience obviously.
Category 2 lie on resume.
And for your response to the experience based skill all skill are its not a quantum mechanics very rare people can understand and knowledge about.
It's business,p&l variance analysis, making budgets, forecasting based on previous.
Although I want to get into this but that's also not a rarest of the rare skill to have. It's just I want this change from monotonous accountinh profile now.
And what you will do after understanding the all financials sit on bed and relax chill? When you are not even finding anything where you can apply the learnings on what you will do with that and without implementing the skills will timely erode.
