Can my current lender refuse to accept the payment from refinance lender because they want to make more money from me? How do I sue them ?

I suppose it all depends on the contract you signed. If there is a pre-payment penalty clause then they might be able to refuse to let you pay it off early.

Otherwise, not sure what they would be trying to pull, and consulting a real estate lawyer would probably be the next step.

smart

Like SM1 said, depends on your contract. In addition to a prepayment penalty, you could be running into seasoning requirements if you’re trying to refinance less than a year into your mortgage

Sanity check needed. We own a home we paid $280k for, 6 years ago. We've begun to outgrow it and are debating building on vs buying.

Building would probably be $350k, would take about 4 months, and would require us to move out temporarily (likely 50-75% of that time), but then we'd have *exactly* what we want. Buying would cost ~$650k (plus $59k in closing costs to sell and buy).

House is worth $400k if we do nothing; addition would likely double value.

What would you do? Build or buy?

Curious for everyone’s thoughts on real-estate right now.. my spouse and I are in Denver and trying to buy our first home. To get a halfway decent 3BR home, we have to spend upwards of 500k and still put a little work/investment in to update the home.. I can’t help but feel we should be waiting for 6 more months and seeing if the price drops.. I want to take advantage of the low rates right now, but can’t believe a half million still requires further investment to update the home.
