Really worried about moving to Canada and looking for a job. PR holder but non-tech. Moving from the US and was hoping to get a job and then move but doesn’t look like that’s happening. Any tips on the first couple of months in Canada and how to build a network?

I recently lateraled into Big Law. Most of my colleagues are homegrown. My shift did involve a big change in practice area, and there's work that I haven't done before that I now have to do.

But, sometimes I feel stupid here, even for work which I have done previously. It's like I'm unable to understand instructions the first time around. And I have seen my colleagues getting annoyed by that. It's like I've become dumb. In my defence, I could say they're giving half assed instructions.

I’m a 9th year in a mostly litigation-based practice group at a one-tier partnership firm. My group’s billable hours have been low the last few years, so making partner will be nearly impossible, and a counsel position is not viable long-term in my group. What’s the best option here if partnership is the ultimate goal? Try to get a NEP/counsel position at another firm, which is likely difficult in my market, or offer to take a class cut by a few years?

Would my best bet be to take an offer with a big tech company that has offices in Canada, then transfer when the time comes?

I heard it is pretty hard to find a job in Canada. Has anyone found accountant or auditors jobs there through LinkedIn or other websites? I would like to know the timeline and how it works as I am thinking to move there.
