Recently my job has been going really well, almost too good. I feel as though I'm becoming a bit out of touch with some of the new tech. My industry is heavily regulated and it is a bear to get even the slightest changes done. That being said, as a work from home employee I do have some down time. Any suggestions on ways I could be improving myself for the future. I am more interested in technical project management.

Are they hiring? Can I use you as a reference? Lol

That's the real question

If you're looking to transition to technical project management, you could use some of your downtime getting a certification. Project Management Professional (PMP) would be a good place to start. You could check out some online learning, places like Udemy or Coursera may have courses you'd be interested in pursuing.

Are you looking to move into managing the timeline of the work or introduce new possibilities into production? Timeline and paperwork is project management and new possibilities into production is product management.

Or do you want to possibly keep doing what you are doing and learn about new tech/code/tools? Possibly gear up on the side to go up the ladder in responsibility?

There is so much “new” out there, it would help to know what you were thinking to leaning.

OP you could always look into doing some certs in your down time or even finding some part time little projects to work on just to keep everything fresh in your mind.

Just out of curiosity, have you ever started a new job and thought what the hell am I getting myself into?!?
If it was the wrong fit how long did you grin and bear it? 6 months / 1 year / longer?
Did it get better with time or worse? (For instance just a case of lack of know-how)
If you left did you find securing a new job difficult due to only being there for so little time?
