I get your nerves. At the end of the day, hire the person that you believe is the best fit for your agency without taking relationships into account. Clients and accounts come and go. Good AEs will foster good relationships with any clients. However, don’t neglect treating the clients input as a recommendation.
Are the day to day clients key decision makers? Do they decide on budgets, sign contracts etc, have final say on the work etc? Or are those things handled by the people above them? Also would said AE’s be working on the accounts with those clients they are friends with?
Completely agree with this. Relationships are more and more important depending on industry and can completely make or break the account. If they’re friends it’s a good thing to strengthen the relationship. And if people are talking poorly or pricing is a fear, reality is you have to hope they value the business and friendship enough to be fair to each and know how to manage that.
