They realized how low quality talent was in Miami
500 percent true. I'm an HR leader at one of the region's largest employers (3000+ professionals at our HQ); we've been based here for our entire history and for the first time we're actively considering moving the headquarters out of the area. Local talent is abysmal - undereducated, unmotivated, entitled, or some combination of the three - and it's becoming increasingly difficult to attract out-of-state talent (terrible public schools, nonexistent transit, long commutes, high housing prices, little to no culture).
Despite very competitive pay/equity (outpacing tech) and terrific performance the last 5-6 years, we simply cannot get the talent we need here, and competitors are picking off our high performers simply by offering them the chance to leave Miami.
We're toying with a move up to Broward or Palm Beach counties, but still doing some analysis on whether that will go far enough to solve our issues.
It's real, ya'll. This is a sunny, fun, interesting place, but it ain't a smart place, and smart people know that.
As a local that moved to another big city and then moved back, I also think we attracted some of the worst people in the country in the 4 ish years I was gone (left before COVID)
What neighbors are you hanging out in and what culture are you expecting lol. Theres great people here locals and transplants. I guess if you focus on all the bad you can never stop complaining.
I think Citadel was the only major relocation and based on what I’ve heard, most high earners in the company want to stay in chicago and NYC.
Wow! I'd no idea about the Desantis bill. I'll read more about it
I recall a lot of chatter during the pandemic about how everyone was going to move to Florida because there was so much freedom. Yeah, right. I think a lot of tech writers went all in on that, but it was never based in reality. The business press is always pushing some trend, and a lot of those stories are just to get clicks, there's very little substance to them.
It's crazy that they would just push out a bunch of baseless press like that. It can cost some people (me) a lot!
HAHA OP I just laughed out loud because I actually never even saw these articles to begin with so I am not at all surprised. I don't know why they thought that would be a good idea to begin with but Miami would not be the place to be in my opinion.
I have no idea either HAHA
Saw this recently lol
