You're right. Research and preparation make all the difference. I always benchmark comp on Glassdoor, then align it with my experience. Confidence is key, but you can't just walk in there with an inflated ego and expect it to go your way. You have to know where you can flex, like PTO, signing bonus, or title. It’s about the full package.

Salary negotiation is funny. You're told to be confident and ask for your worth, but also not too confident or you’ll scare them off. You research market rates only to be told “we don’t base pay on that.” It’s a balancing act between knowing your value and not looking ungrateful.

Yep, pretty much nailed it here. I think the most important piece is the researching phase. Too many people go into negotiations without any understanding of the market and end up costing themselves tons of money as a result.
