Some states and cities require companies to post salary ranges when they post jobs. Their passive aggressive way to comply with the law but not provide any useful information is to post a range like you're describing. In any event, the upper parts of those ranges are almost always unattainable, those mythical candidates would have several degrees, decades of experience, and the ability to leap tall buildings in a single bound.

That is the biggest argument against salary transparency and compliance: the companies go out of their way to find loopholes. The wide salary ranges drive me crazier than seeing no salary listed.

Same here! It amazes me that they are allowed to do this. Terrible way to lead on potential candidates with these types of ranges
