ATL Pride anyone?
Hello Gang, I’m on the business side for Walmart right now. Walmart Global Tech recently offered me a role to move to the San Bruno office, but I’d be taking a demotion from L6 to E5. YOE: 8, COMP(200k base, 25% bonus, 100k RSU). Is this competitive in the bay? I have Doordash and Instacart in the pipeline, but no final offers yet.
Best SPG or Marriott in San Francisco?
Hi, I'm leaving Citi in 2 months. It's hard to make this decision. I have an offer from a small startup. In citi, my previous experience was not considered and was reskilled to different tech which is the reason for change.I don't like to exit citi. As I like the company so much. But considering my current knowledge,I am in the middle of the sea.I am afraid now that the new company's offer would be revoked due to this recession?Or can I take back my resignation in citi before the last working day.Is this wise decision?

I have lived in all three. Dm if any detailed questions.
If you like outdoors activities (biking, hiking, snow sports, etc) Seattle and SF are way way better. Austin is pretty compared to the other large Texas cities…but west coast is another league.
Nightlife is much better in Austin vs the other two which have pretty poor scenes IMO.
Food is better overall in SF>SEA>Austin but probably depends on your personal tastes too. Austin has great bbq, Mexican, and Asian fusion, it’s also much more affordable..but lacks depth/refinement in other areas.
If you’re Asian (East or South), it’s a normative state of being in SF and to a lesser extent in Seattle, not the case in Austin where it’s a clear minority.
It seems like there is more energy and growth happening in Austin right now in the tech scene, at least a lot of optimism even if it hasn’t materialized into much yet. SF, especially downtown area, the best days I think are behind it as startups/tech shift to remote. Seattle is really a big company town driven by Amazon/Microsoft/Boeing.
Affordability and stage of life is also another consideration. For a decent sfh in a good school district, Austin can budget 700k, Seattle 1.2, and SF Bay Area 1.8M to give you a sense. If you’re renting I think the difference is not that so much at this point, maybe 1.6k vs 2k vs 2.8k, but you can make it work.
If you are in consulting in SF you will feel poor at lower levels especially compared to your peer group in tech.
Rising Star
Seattle. No state income tax, plenty of stuff to do, and lower cost of living than SF.
Austin is in Texas, which is basically a developing country.
Rising Star
Among inability to keep a power grid up, encroachment on reproductive healthcare, relatively higher infant mortality, and illiberal election oversight, that’s what it is, SC1. Texas is a garbage state.

Out of the 3, and I stress it’s out of the 3, Austin is your best bet. Although outside of those 3 I wouldn’t recommend Austin. Completely overcrowded and unlike NYC or LA it does not have the infrastructure to handle the overpopulation. “So much to do” includes wait 3 hours to do anything on the weekend because everyone else is trying to do the same thing. The lines and traffic are insane. The restaurants, although good, and extremely overpriced and absolutely not worth the 3 hour waits (yes I am serious). The rent prices are just as bad as in Cali, although you get a little “boost” by not having to pay state income tax, but it’s definitely a HCOL area but employers don’t treat it as such. Thankfully I was able to keep my Cali salary but make no mistake Austin is expensive af. They moved the homeless out of the city but they are all camping out in the forests/parks, they’re still there just less visible.
It’s better than SF which is a complete 3rd world country at this point and it’s not as cold/depressing as Seattle. But if you don’t mind having a full 4 seasons Seattle might be better for you. I’ve had close friends live there for multiple years and they liked it but it rains a lot

Agreed EM1
I currently live in Austin and I enjoy it for a number of reasons:
- Scenery
- Up & coming due to many tech companies moving
- Lively yet calm
- Large amount of activities to do each weekend
But of course, there are a few things to be aware of:
- Rent prices are increasing due to the city's increased popularity
- Rising homeless population
- Crowded location
cons:
-Tech companies quite literally building on top of Austin culture which will no longer exist
-high cost of rent is driving artists out of the city which was a big part of the appeal
-music venues being replaced by pseudo-hipster whiskey bars that tech bros go to in order to feel “Austin weird” and quirky
Like it’s a great place sure, but it’s unrecognizable when compared to what made the city popular in the first place.
Go and visit. My friend who is originally from CA and lived for many years in Seattle moved to Austin excited to do all the things mentioned above, yet to find herself disappointed in people. Neither her not her SO liked it there (largely because of people), so they are moving back to Seattle after a couple of years in Austin.

Ok if not those three, how about Denver?

Do you have any preference to weather or the surrounding area you live in? I know plenty of people that are happy in Denver, but they are people are particularly enjoy winter sports. If you hate the cold, this would be a horrible recommendation. I’ve spent some time there and it was pretty cool, but you’re in a city in the middle of nowhere, like seriously go look at the highway system in CO. If this doesn’t bother you, then go for it. Doesn’t have any of the problems as the other cities, or at least nowhere near the same extent. But again if you hate the snow, you’d be much happier in Austin despite everything i said about it earlier.
San Francisco all day
